Most of research subjects have been male. However, since 2001, with the landmark Institute of Medicine’s report emphasizing that sexual differences do influence biology, there has been increased awareness of closing the research-biased gender gap and also physician gender bias in diagnosis and treatment. Progress is being made, yet, much more is needed. (Not just for men, Scientific American, 2017, 317(3), 52-57)
